~Depeche Mode, Violator, 1990
You had something to hide
Should have hidden it, shouldn't you
Now you're not satisfied
With what you're being put through
It's just time to pay the price
For not listening to advice
And deciding in your youth
On the policy of truth
Things could be so different now
It used to be so civilised
You will always wonder how
It could have been if you'd only lied
It's too late to change events
It's time to face the consequence
For delivering the proof
In the policy of truth
Never again is what you swore
The time before
Never again is what you swore
The time before
Now you're standing there tongue tied
You'd better learn your lesson well
Hide what you have to hide
And tell what you have to tell
You'll see your problems multiplied
If you continually decide
To faithfully pursue
The policy of truth
Never again is what you swore
The time before
Never again is what you swore
The time before

talk about hitting home...
Its amazing how certain songs (& their lyrics) can seem to speak so directly to you or about you.
You'd think truth would be something to strive for? Maybe I've got it all wrong?
You would think it would be something to strive for, wouldn't you? It has always been the place I operate from. But that doesn't seem to be so for many others.
Maybe we have got it all wrong--but then again, maybe we aren't Machievellian liars, either--which is certainly preferable to me, despite the how alone my principles end up leaving me. Glad to know I'm not the only one.
What? Did someone lie to you recently?
People lie on a daily basis--to benefit themselves, avoid things, get out of situations where they might have to work a little. It is becoming the primary method of communication, I think (fear).
"The truth is out there."
Indeed--but few people are interested in discovering it for themselves, whatever the "it" may be. It proves too scary, on too many levels. So much easier to tune out and allow others to tell us what the truth really is, or avoid it altogether.
Then again, truth is subjective. But I wonder why so many people choose to lie in order to make their lives easier, despite any radiating consequences. It's a very selfish act.
Yer so passionate.
Yes, yes I am...and make no apologies for it.
As a side note:
It really bugs me that I misspelled "Machiavellian" above, but in order to correct it, I'd have to delete the entry and replace it--but then the timeline would be out of sync--so I'll just note the correction here.
Jesus, what a pinheaded, obsessive Virgo I am.
